Just Go With It

I've heard great reviews about this romantic comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler.  What I love is that part of the movie is filmed on location in Hawaii!  Notice I've been posting lately about Hawaiian  designers.  I love the design inspiration this tropical paradise has to offer us!

Sony Pictures
In Just Go With It, a plastic surgeon, romancing a much younger schoolteacher, enlists his loyal assistant to pretend to be his soon to-be ex-wife, in order to cover up a careless lie.  When more lies backfire, the assistant's kids become involved and everyone heads off for a weekend in Hawaii that will change all their lives.

Hawaiian Chic

This home is owned and designed by Marion Philpotts-Miller.  Marion wanted her home to reflect the essence of an indoor-outdoor connection in which many chic homes in Hawaii have.  The result is a fresh tropical look perfect for Marion, her husband Jeff and their two daughters, Markena and Maree'.  See the full feature in Traditional Home.

Honolulu Outdoor Entertaining

Hawaiian designer, Michelle Uchiyama, gathered some of her friends for a dinner party held at at clients home on the coast of Hawaii.  She wanted to incorporate all the elements that would represent nature and the culture of her island state.  The setting is breathtaking!

Michelle Uchiyama
"In Hawaii, the ocean always extends an invitation to dine outdoors," says Michelle. "Here, as guests of nature, we only have to travel as far as our own backyard."

Coastal Inspiration in the City {Sara Story Design}

In a few days I'll be jetting off to NYC with my girlfriends for 2 1/2 days. I'll be eating, shopping and walking through the beautiful streets, admiring the buildings, and wondering how they are decorated inside {yes, that's what goes through my mind}.  With that said, I was excited to find this designer over at Marianne's blog, Style For Living.  I loved all the photos and had to share them with you.

Designer, Sara Story, moved to NYC in 2001 and has worked with prominent designers and now has her own design firm.  Her design has many ranges, but I particularly enjoy the coastal elements that she has created. Here is a sampling of her work in the city, from Fifth Avenue, Gramercy Park, Upper East Side, and lower Fifth Ave.

Ina Garten's Strawberry Shortcake {Valentine's Day Dessert}

My favorite dessert is strawberry shortcake and I love trying different recipes.  Here's one from Ina Garten that is sure to be loved!

Serves 6

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar, plus extra for sprinkling
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
12 tablespoons (1½ sticks) cold unsalted butter, diced
2 extra-large eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup cold heavy cream
1 egg beaten with 2 tablespoons water or milk, for egg wash

Serves 6
2 pints fresh strawberries
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons Grand Marnier liqueur
Sweetened whipped cream

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

2. Sift the flour, two tablespoons sugar, the baking powder, and salt into the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Blend in the butter on low speed and mix until the butter is the size of peas. Combine the eggs and heavy cream and, with the mixer still on low, add to the flour and butter mixture. Mix until just blended.

3. Dump the dough onto a well-floured surface. Flour a rolling pin and roll the dough ½-inch thick. You should see lumps of butter in the dough. Cut 16 biscuits with a two-inch plain round cutter and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

4. Brush the tops with the egg wash. Sprinkle with sugar and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until the tops are lightly browned and the insides are fully baked. Cool.

5. To serve, toss the strawberries with the granulated sugar and Grand Marnier. Place the berries in martini glasses, top with a dollop of whipped cream, and serve with two small shortcakes on the side.

"If you have the time to marinate the strawberries for a half hour, they'll make a sauce that's delicious."

"This dough is quite wet. Use lots of flour when you roll it out so the biscuits don't stick."

Chic Bloggers and Their Coastal Kitchens

I absolutely love that I found an informative kitchen renovation post at, A Brooklyn Limestone's, blog.  My two favorite parts of their kitchen renovation are the inset cabinets that reach to the ceiling and the gorgeous designed wood floors.  Having cabinets that reach the ceiling allows the room to look tall and elegant.  I did the same in my kitchen, in which I will share with you soon! Enjoy these photos and let me know what you love about this gorgeous chic coastal kitchen!
